R.I.P. - Amy Winehouse found dead

British singer-songwriter Amy Jade Winehouse has been found dead at her home in Camden, north London, at 3:54pm. Cause of death is unconfirmed but combined drug and drink overdose are suspected. She was only 27.

Known for her powerful contralto vocals and eclectic mix of genres - notably R&B, soul, jazz - Amy broke through into the public conscience with her smash hit "Rehab", released in October 2006 and featuring rap superstar Jay-Z on the remix. The song's success, coupled with widespread publicity of her struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues sent her two albums to the top of the charts, selling millions worldwide. Her turbulent marriage and divorce with Blake Fielder-Civil, who later involved himself with a transexual lookalike of Amy, also became tabloid fodder. Fans worldwide have eagerly awaited Amy's oft-delayed third album, whose release was put-off various times to allow for her rehabilitation; an attempted comeback tour stalled earlier this year after Amy proved unable to perform her songs adequately, to the disappointment of her fans.

An irreplaceable talent, ripped away in her prime. RIP.

I leave you with my favourite Amy song, "Tears Dry On Their Own", taken from her sophomore album "Back In Black".

EDIT: Amy's last ever performance, "Mama Said", only two days ago, with god-daughter Dionne Bromfield:
